The AAF kicked off for the first time last night. I know after the Super Bowl we go through that little spell of depression from no football. Most notably on days like today, the first Sunday without seeing Tom and fam on the field. It’s killer. Now we shift our sights on the Celtics & the B’s.
Whenever you hear about new leagues, it’s always uninteresting because they try to do too many things differently. The CFL has 12 dudes on the field with some full blown crazy rules. Just check out this shit show:
The XFL does sound interesting but more from an entertainment perspective. I’ll probably watch the first week just to see something wild happen on the field. Maybe the Rock comes down out of the stands right before the ball is snapped and choke slams the ref.
But the AAF had some quality football. The rules are mainly the same but the big difference are
- No kickoffs, ball spotted at the 25
- Only 2 pt conversions
- No onside kicks, your team gets a 4th and 12 and has to convert
- Can only blitz 5 guys at a time
- No TV time outs (nice)
I don’t love the 2 point conversion rule, because I feel like that will take away from game excitement coming down the stretch. The late game had a team down 9 with the ball with 1.5 minutes left. The game was basically done. I also don’t really understand the blitz rule either but fuck it, it’s more football.
Here are some notable dudes that are in the league:
- Coaches: Mike Singletary, Steve Spurrier, Mike Martz, Michael Vick (OC)
- Players: Trent Richardson, Aaron Murray, Akeem Hunt, BJ Daniels, Orion Stewart
