I started The Hook Boston back in 2015, been talking Boston sports since 2012.

The Patriots had their sendoff rally this morning on their way to ATL. Tommy and the boys got the masses of New England faithful riled up with a “We’re still here” chant, and all of America can feel the evil empire on the verge of their 6th Super Bowl. The two weeks leading up to Super Bowl Sunday are weird for me as I am sure it is for all fans. It’s the calm before the storm. Constant analysis on clown networks like ESPN and Fox sports, where idiotic figure heads continue to say the dynasty is over, 12 is too old and their defense just won’t be enough. Every post on Instagram is littered with hating comments and strange accusations all because people hate success. While looking through the comments I noticed a few repeats and thought I should make a list of my personal favorites.
- Tom Brady Got/Gets Lucky
Recently this week, Rob Parker stated that Tom Brady was the luckiest of all time. He also said he would move to Mexico if the Chiefs won so take it for what it’s worth. This isn’t to say that luck has no place in football because it absolutely does. Some teams are just luckier than others. You won’t hear a coach admit it. Some coaches believe in making their own luck by playing harder and smarter. At the end of the day you just get unlucky. This argument when talking about the New England Patriots does not exist. We can really dive into the history books with this and unpack the “Tuck Rule” which I still do not understand the argument for that. What do people expect refs to do? Not acknowledge a rule? But in recent memory the Patriots have been anything but lucky. Suffered a heart-breaking loss last year’s Super Bowl, overcame a 28-3 deficit, and the year before that lost in Denver to the Broncos in the AFC Championship. The only example one could point to would be the Super Bowl which was a clinic on second half coaching adjustments by an entire team, not just Brady. If someone brought this up to me in person it would be laughable, there is something so special about the online warriors tearing down the empire a comment at a time.
- Spygate, Deflategate, 2001 Super Bowl
This seems to be the crown jewel of any good anti-Patriots argument. Starting off with rams players still being salty about the Patriots upsetting the “Greatest Show on Turf”. This story was fabricated when an unnamed source was at both the Patriots and the Rams practice. The Boston Herald lovingly reported the story to start only to later retract the report. This led into Spygate which we all know have heard relentlessly thousands of times. People don’t seem to understand that every coach and team in the league was filming teams signals. Goodell sent out an email to every coach in the league to stop filming. Belichick was one of the only coaches to not abide and became a scapegoat of the league. By the time we hit deflategate we go full conspiracy mode. Another story that has been beaten like a dead horse. Initially reports of 11/12 footballs were under inflated along with texts from Brady to equipment mangers wreaks of conspiracy. Until we find out that only one of twelve balls were underinflated, and all twelve were replaced at the start of the second half. On top of that multiple QB’s come out to state that each one likes to throw a different football. Nothing groundbreaking. Unless you work at any news outlet trying to tear down the empire.
- Brady Is A System QB
This is hands down my favorite Patriot hater comment. An offensive system is built around certain players, often the best players on the field. That Brady guy ain’t bad so why not build it around him. Everything is a system with Brady, it’s what makes him and the Patriots so good. A system of pre and post snap reads for Brady and everyone of the field to read. To be successful all 11 must be on the same page. But at the head of that monster on the field on the field is Brady. I understand the argument. If Brady were to be on another team would he be as good? Probably not, its foolish to think otherwise. But don’t act like this half assed argument takes any credit away from the dynasty. At the end of the day every team in the NFL has a system and a QB to fit that system. Just happens to be New England hung onto the best ever.
Those are my top 3 Patriot hater excuses made by the worst kinds of people in this world; people who hate success instead of respecting it. I can’t wait for the Super Bowl, McVay is the young mastermind up against Belichick who has seen literally every scheme in football. Nothing in football created is ever new, its just re-used. Its going to be a tremendous game against the worst sports city in America, Los Angeles. I would know, I live here. No heart or passion amongst any sports teams here. They can’t even decide on one team per sport. Pathetic.
PS.-Props to everyone that went to the send off today. That crowd was an incredible showing from the best fan base in the nation.
