There’s really not much to talk about with this story. Radio stations and TV news outlets of course are going to run this story over and over again. At the end of the day, The Patriots knew they were rolling the dice. A 5th rounder for this type of talent came with some kind of risk.
We were all excited about this dude when he came over. I was aware of how high his ceiling was but I knew of his track record. It was impossible to ignore but we all decided to push it aside and hope for the best. The way he was handling himself around the football field and in the media ended up being just a great PR job. Underneath it all, the addiction continued to persist.
No one is exactly sure what this violation is. Did he test positive? Did he not show up to a test? It remains to be seen. After watching the Uninterrupted above, I had a hard time believing weed was what had gotten him in trouble in the first place. For some reason, I think the Browns held out deeper details on Josh when he had been suspended initially. As Josh said in the interview above, it’s really easy to pass a drug test if there’s lettuce in your system. I also don’t think the NFL is worried about players smoking weed. I have zero proof or evidence to back that, but just look at the entire league. The NFL makes way too much money to be worrying about dudes smoking pot and I’m sure a large portion of players do.
Anyways, here’s the 2 minute recap of what to expect with Josh Gordon. Props USA Today, I didn’t feel like shooting and editing a video.
